Following similar directives from many other states, Maryland's Governor issued an executive order that went into effect on Monday night. The order requires the closure of non-essential businesses but permitting staff and owners to be on site for "minimal operations" (such as facilitating remote work and performing essential administrative functions).

This order comes a week after Maryland's Office of Legal Counsel provided guidance on businesses that can stay open during the crisis. At the time of the guidance, there was not an official shelter-in-place order, but the governor had ordered the closing of non-essential businesses on March 19.
