Charity Calls for Board Nominations, Tells Story of Sgt. Pennock

Within two weeks of announcing the remarkable success of its 2014 No Debts for Vets Fundraising Drive, ARMing Heroes, the collection industry’s charity for military veterans, today announced its intention to further expand its board of trustees (“the board”).  Last year, the board added three additional members and saw its annual fundraising nearly double.  With the current board comprised of eight members today, the organization is considering expanding by one to five members.  The application can be found on the organization’s site.

Anyone can nominate a board member or self-nominate.

Ideal board members will offer a combination of the three W’s of non-profit board success: wealth, in the form of direct contributions and the ability to fundraise among their contacts; work, in the form a nominal quarterly time commitment; and wisdom, in the form of the nominee’s expertise in a given field.

Ideal candidates will possess one or more of the following characteristics:

• Any person with the ability to fundraise in at the person’s own organization and/or through other contacts
• Any person with veteran status that otherwise meets ARMing Heroes’ qualifications for typical grant applicants
• Any parent within the industry of a currently- or recently-deployed person
• Any attorney with compliance or general industry expertise
• Any executives or management professionals with extensive debt buyer, creditor, or vendor contacts within the ARM industry
• Any person within the industry who can offer a voice that enhances the board’s overall diversity
• Any person within the industry with a particular affinity for the cause of supporting U.S. military veterans and military families

Serve to Help Vets Like Sam Pennock

New board members will play a significant role in all board decisions. Hundreds of unemployed, underemployed, and disabled veterans apply for a grant each year, all hoping for help to fill the gap between income and expenses, for needs that are largely unmet by government programs or even by other military charities.

One such vet, Sergeant Sam Pennock, served in the U.S. Marine Corps for nearly 14 years until a service-connected disability prompted his separation from service. After years of being unable to work, Sam struggled to support his wife and children, fell behind on monthly expenses, and turned to ARMing Heroes for help. Upon hearing the news in December 2014 that his grant was approved, Sam expressed his sincere gratitude:

“I’d like to personally thank everyone who donated to ARMing Heroes. The grant that I was awarded really, really helped out during the Christmas season.  I honestly don’t know what I would have done without it.  I can’t tell you how thankful my family and I are for what you did for us.”

The charity’s flagship No Debts for Vets Charity Fundraising Drive runs from September 11^th through Veterans Day, November 11^th every year, however tax-deductible donations are accepted at any time online at www.armingheroes.org and via mail to PO Box 353, Collingswood, NJ 08108, payable to ARMing Heroes. Pledges may be made to info@armingheroes.org.  Any amounts pledged or donated now will be applied to the 2015 drive.
