Debt Collectors Help Gold Star Military Mom Keep Family Home

ARMing Heroes (www.armingheroes.org) is pleased to announce that its donors’ contributions to the 2012 No Debts for Vets Charity Fundraising Drive have enabled gold-star military mother Terry Hardin to keep her family home as a result of the grant she was awarded late last year.

As originally reported in November 2012, Terry Hardin submitted a grant application last year, asking for help with some bills.  As it turns out, she needed this help to try to qualify for a new mortgage, without which she expected to lose her family home, the home she grew up in.

Her son, Kevin Hardin, was ARMing Heroes’ first recipient of aid of any kind from ARMing Heroes, which had donated furniture to him for his move with his wife to Texas back in 2009, shortly after the organization’s founding.  Kevin had become 100% disabled in Iraq.  A year ago this past Tuesday, Kevin Hardin died suddenly in his home at the age of 25, for reasons the family believes were related to his service.Not long after the passing of her son, Terry’s husband Charles, a Vietnam veteran, who had been battling colon cancer, also passed away.  After the tragic passing of both her son and husband, Terry’s remaining son went off to basic training on September 11, 2012.

To say that Terry Hardin has been through a lot in the past year is an understatement. When Mrs. Hardin’s grant application was processed, ARMing Heroes had just completed its annual drive. As a result of the drive, the credit and collection industry raised more than $17,000 in only a ten-week period starting on September 11th and concluding on Veterans Day, November 11th, thanks to these donors: http://www.armingheroes.org/arming-heroes/donors.

Last month, Terry got the help she needed.  Here’s what she had to say about it.

“Because of your generosity, I am now able to stay in my childhood home.  I feel so much peace and comfort in my home and feel certain that my husband and my son (who did so very much work to the home before they passed) would want me to stay in our family home. I never in a million years would have qualified for a mortgage to stay in my home if it weren’t for the generosity of your organization … enabling me to be approved for a mortgage.  Saying thank you just doesn’t seem like enough.  I am forever grateful and eternally indebted to each of you.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

ARMing Heroes was founded and began operating in March, 2009.  The organization’s mission is to serve the needs of U.S. military veterans, including their spouse and children.
