No rose colored glasses for the Senator from Montana.  When Senator Max Baucus looks at the nation’s health care, the Democrat sees a system on the verge of collapse.

His self-appointed mission as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee: trying to prevent that collapse.  And he may be the man for it.  When asked about the challenge, he described it, according to the Billings Gazette, as “exciting and fun.”

One thing Senator Baucus is clear on: the solution won’t come from modeling ourselves on our neighbors to the north or across the pond.  It will not be a single-payer system as is found in Canada or the United Kingdom, he said. It will be a combination of private and public financing.

"It must effectively and realistically reduce costs," Baucus said in a statement.
