Enterprise Recovery Systems, Inc.® (ERS) announced today that they hosted a congressional visit on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Rep. Peter Roskam, (IL-06) who is now in his fourth term in the United States House of Representatives, met with ERS senior management. Roskam also toured the 85,000 square-foot facilities and took time to hold a town hall meeting with some of the 600+ staff members.
During Roskam’s visit with senior management, Scott Nicholson, ERS President, gave an overview of the student loan industry, including an explanation of the U.S. Department of Education collections contract. He also explained the various roles ERS plays in the student loan industry in addition to student loan default collections. There was also an in-depth discussion regarding the currently outdated Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) rules and how those rules are restricting the collection industry.
During the town hall forum, employees discussed the current administration’s work to drive private lenders out of the student loan program, which has forced the U.S. government to borrow $100 billion annually from foreign countries to make loans for Americans when U.S. banks are willing to make those loans. Employees also voiced concerns that collection agencies are currently restricted from calling student loan borrowers on their cell phones due to TCPA rules, and Roskam encouraged employees to engage the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) through letter writing and advocacy campaigns. According to a recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) study, 57.1% of all American households now are either exclusively or predominantly wireless. They asked what Congress can do to persuade the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to modernize the regulations for the TCPA.
