A UK debt collection firm, Swift Credit Services, is using car tag-reading technology to find debtors.
The agency owns two vans equipped with cameras that record the tag numbers of all passing vehicles. The tags are then checked against a database of scofflaws to see if the car has been involved in traffic offences for which fines are still unpaid.
Swift managing director Huw Lloyd-Lewis described Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and associated software as “probably the most revolutionary system to be introduced into parking enforcement in the UK” in a story running in the Western Mail.
New technology is also helping Swift collect payments. Swift upgraded its call center with management software which enables callers with a touch telephone to make payment without the need to speak to an adviser.
