Austin, Texas-based Municipal Services Bureau is pleased to announce it was selected in a competitive bid process by the City of Olathe, Kansas to provide outsourced collection services.
“The opportunity to include the City of Olathe in our large group of Kansas clients is another effect of our proven ability to execute for courts everywhere,” said Patrick J. Swanick, Chief Executive Officer at MSB.
“MSB currently works with over 60 clients in Kansas so we are confident they can achieve the results we expect,” said Judy Meisel, Purchasing Manager for the City. “They had strong references from current clients and we were impressed by their level of professionalism and ethics,” Meisel added. The City has chosen MSB to collect their court fines and fees. The contract term is 3 years with options to renew annually.
This request for proposals originated as a result of the passage of an amendment to K.S.A. Statute 12-4104 allowing municipal courts to recover costs associated with the collection of fines and fees. Prior to passage of this amendment, courts would have had to pay for the collection services out of the fines and fees collected. This amendment allows the collection agencies to add their charges for collection on top of the fine or fee collected, thus allowing the courts to recover the entire fine or fee.
