Most American workers do not want their paycheck to be processed overseas, fearing it would make them more vulnerable to identity theft, according to results from the American Payroll Association’s 2006 “Getting Paid In America” online survey.
Sixty percent of American workers surveyed indicated it does not matter where their paychecks are processed, as long as the information is accurate. Yet 77 percent later indicated they would be unhappy if their company announced that their paychecks would soon be processed overseas. And further, if the payroll processing did move overseas, 84 percent of survey participants are not confident their private data would be properly protected.
“The world may be flat, but when it comes to offshoring payroll processing, America’s workers overwhelmingly want to keep things stateside,” said Jon Bohnert, Executive Vice President, Symmetry Software, the operator of PaycheckCity.com. “A significant majority of survey respondents do not like, nor trust, the idea of having paychecks processed overseas. The NPW survey always provides enlightening information about the pulse of America’s workers, and payroll service providers, both large and small, would be wise to take notice.”
