ACF Skins Games Benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia Break Half-Million-Dollar Mark

The Atlantic Credit & Finance Skins Game benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia took place at Ballyhack Golf Club on October 14, 2013. In its eighth year, the tournament has now raised over $500,000 dollars to benefit the local Boys & Girls Clubs.

“A half of a million dollars makes a huge impact on any organization, and we are so thankful for the generosity and motivation of the folks at Atlantic Credit & Finance and all they have done for us,” said Boys & Girls Clubs Board President Walt Derey, Vice President of Pitman Construction.

This year the tournament hosted 22 teams and the Club Kids Skins Game, where four kids (who have been practicing golf at the clubs) were paired with a pro and had their own competition.

The ACF Skins Game raises much-needed funds to support the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. A recent survey performed by Boys & Girls Clubs of America illustrates the exceptional impact and importance of Boys & Girls Clubs programs:

• 57% of alumni said the Club saved their life

• 90% of Club alumni graduate high school (an especially interesting statistic when compared to the 75% graduation rate for Southwest Virginia cited by the Virginia Dept. of Education)

• 90% said the Club was one of the best things available to them in their community

• 100% of Club kids participate in Power Hour, a homework help program

• 100% perform community service and learn the value of doing for others

• 62% of our Club kids are on the A or A/B honor rolls at their schools

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia was incorporated in 1997, when it was known as The Boys & Girls Club of Roanoke Valley. Since then, Clubs throughout Roanoke and in the New River Valley have arisen with the support of the original Roanoke club at 9th Street in SE Roanoke. Together, the clubs now operate as a regional effort, working together to maximize resources and serve children.
