What follows is a release we received. I want to make sure we’re all clear here, though: This is not about instituting debtors’ prison. People aren’t being threatened with jail time because they’re in debt. We’re seeing more and more of these suppositional stories out there, claiming that debtors’ prisons are the new black and sure to be on everyone’s MUST list this year. They’re not. Carry on.
Government debt collection firm Municipal Services Bureau (MSB) is teaming with Texas jurisdictions statewide to remind people with outstanding warrants to pay their unresolved fines and fees owed to the state while they still have the chance.
The process, known as “Warrant Round-Up,” allows individuals a grace period before constables in each participating jurisdiction begin knocking on doors and enforcing the warrants. MSB collects delinquent court fines and fees throughout the state of Texas and nationwide.
“We’re helping both jurisdictions and defendants expedite the process of resolving these cases, especially since it may be a forgotten fine or fee,” said Bruce Cummings, Chief Executive Officer of MSB. The company has already started sending letter notifications to defendants. MSB will continue to collect on all cases in a delinquent status to increase compliance for the courts.
The Warrant Round-Up begins February 25.
