Editor’s NoteWhen this story ran on 3/21/2007, it incorrectly identified the Columbus in question as Columbus, Ohio. This was an error — it is Columbus, Georgia. The story has been corrected.

The Columbus, Georgia, Consolidated Government is in the market for a collection agency to help recoup funds not paid by citizens to the city.

The city was scheduled to vote on an agreement with Alabama-based Revenue Discovery Systems of Birmingham – but several councilors were uncomfortable going with someone not local and out-of-state.  So, the vote has been delayed in order to give several local collection agencies a chance to submit bids.

This isn’t a reflection on RDS’s ability; 31 municipalities already use RDS.  Columbus, however, is looking for someone in-state – and, preferably in-city – to also submit bids before they make their decision.
