Private firm Now Handling Ambulance Service Billing

Looking for a better way to improve both billings and collections, the Collier County Commission on Tuesday approved retaining Advanced Data Processing Inc., ADPI, a national company that provides EMS billing services to municipal governments.

The company is projecting that it will be able to improve the county’s Emergency Medical Services collections by $1.3 million nect year.

Jeff Page, director of operations for EMS, told Floriday’s Naples News that “We are about a month out and we just can’t seem to get caught up,” he said. “We just don’t have the resources.”

The county’s cost for retaining ADPI will be $273,000 in 2008, which is based on a percentage of its bill collecting for EMS.

Unpaid bills from uninsured individuals and those who have not responded to the bills after 180 days are turned over to a collection agency; ADPI doesn’t handle that work, Kainrab told the Naples News. On the other hand, ADPI handles the accounts for uninsured people who have made arrangements to pay down their ambulance bill over time, he said.
