Study Finds Hospitals Lagging Behind on ICD-10 Transition

Most healthcare providers are 25 pecent or less complete in their ICD-10 implementation process, a survey by the Aloft Group found.

“ICD-10 Snapshot Study,” conducted with more than 260 healthcare providers across the U.S., found that one-third of respondents have not yet started the ICD-10 transformation process, which must be completed by Oct. 1, 2014.

” Seventy-one percent stated lack of time as their top conversion obstacle,” the survey found. “The majority (55 pecent) have no fear they will meet the … deadline.”

Other findings include:

• Some 43 percent don’t agree with the AMA’s opposition to ICD-10 implementation and believe we need to transition to ICD- Slightly more than 10 percent were undecided and 25 percent did agree with their position.
• Coding education is the biggest gap in 75 percent of providers’ ICD-10 conversion plans, followed by coding implementation (60 percent).
• The leading gap in the ICD-10 education process is proper training tools (48 percent) followed by financial resources (42 percent).
