It is hard to believe that July is here and 2013 is half over.

While the year is flying by, at least it puts us that much closer to ACA International’s annual convention and expo in beautiful San Diego. ACA’s annual meeting is always a great opportunity to learn about new technology, get updated on industry issues, expand business networks and reconnect with old friends.

As a member of the Council of Delegates, I look forward to meeting all of this year’s board of director candidates, learning about their motivation for running and their goals for the association. I believe the new governance structure for ACA has been a positive change. Our association is very fortunate to have an excellent pool of competent and accomplished candidates willing to contribute their time and energy to the association and the industry in general. I am sure the new board installed at this year’s meeting will be ready to meet the challenge of moving ACA International forward in a positive direction.

ACA has prepared a very full slate of sessions and events.

With the new federal regulatory issues facing our industry, it is no surprise that this year’s convention has significant content related to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. ACA is providing two entire days of content related to:

  • Preparing a compliance program for CFPB

  • CFPB Investigation readiness

  • CFPB’s complaint database for the debt collection industry

ACA is also providing session content regarding state regulatory trends. Keeping abreast of state and local regulatory requirements is always a challenging task. I know that many of our clients recently had their business processes impacted by the recent licensing requirements implemented by the City of Chicago.

There is also a very interesting session scheduled for Monday afternoon called “Using Multi-Channel Communication Strategies to Accelerate Revenue,” that I am sure people will not want to miss! This session will highlight how collection agencies are using secure email, secure web based payment tools and mobile tags to help enhance recovery rates, improve consumer convenience and gain operational savings. (OK…full disclosure, I will be moderating this session, but I hope you can make time to attend).

I see that ACA is also having a new event this year titled “ACA Young Professionals Event” on Sunday evening after the Opening reception. While I am not sure if I still fit that age demographic, I may try to sneak in and see what this new event is all about.

Lastly, I am excited to see this year’s Opening General Session performance by Mike Rayburn. I have heard from multiple people that he puts on a very entertaining and motivating performance. It should be a great way to start off Monday’s events.

I hope everyone has a safe trip in to San Diego later this month.  I look forward to seeing everyone and hope you can find time to stop by and visit with the RevSpring team at booth #304!
